    Measure in the evening

    Your feet swell over the day. Stand on a sheet of paper after work, mark the heel and the longest toe, and measure the line. That number is the one your shoes have to fit.

    Fit the bigger foot

    Most people have one foot a little longer than the other. Order for the longer one, and lace the other one a notch tighter.

  3. 3

    Leave a thumb at the toe

    About half an inch between your longest toe and the end of the shoe is enough room to walk without your toes hitting the front.

ZGR started with one plain canvas low top in black, white and red, the kind of sneaker people buy a second pair of before the first wears out. The range still grows from that shoe: the same lace-up shape, cut higher, printed, embroidered, and for winter, turned into a boot.

10 years on, the ZGR studio still starts every new shoe from that lace-up shape.

Do ZGR sneakers run true to size for you?

For our classic canvas low top and high top, we say US sizing, true to size. For the men’s high top, check the inner length and allow for the width of your foot. The size guide shows how to measure at home in the evening, when your feet are at their largest.

Are ZGR snow boots waterproof enough for your winter?

Both boots have a water-resistant synthetic leather upper that sheds rain and slush, a faux fur lining and a side zipper. They are not sold as fully waterproof boots, so for standing water or deep wet snow you will want a boot rated for it.

Can you wash your canvas sneakers at home?

Canvas takes water well. Brush off dry dirt, wash the upper with cool water and a mild soap, and wash the laces on their own. Stuff the shoes with paper to dry, and keep white canvas out of strong sun while it is wet, or it can yellow.
